A GYM INSTRUCTOR WRITES...
Just before asking for money to clear medical bills. He said "so, you have nothing better to do with your life than operate a gym?". Most people haven't had the chance to get the exposure some of us have had so I didn't reply with a sarcastic comment because I knew he was speaking out of lack of knowledge . I gave him the money and fought the urge to tell him, the venture you just disrespected is what just paid for your treatment.
We live in a society where people don't believe in dreams and talents. For this reason, capable people do not support ventures that are not conventional. If you go asking for support, it better be about education, or money for marriage or your child's outdooring, medical bills. The such like. For these reasons, most young people go out looking for educational scholarships because thats the only form of support they will ever get. Most of them don't even know what to do with the degrees they get from such scholarships. They eventually end up in civil service. All these highly educated people, what difference have we made in society. The education we get helps us get a job, a salary to take care of our families. The government has to borrow money to pay our degree and masters salaries.
But when somebody actually has a vision which will eventually help the society at large. Your own people try to kill the dream. Forget support. Many people are living unfulfilled lives because they succumbed to societies pressure to not go after their dreams. I started my own gym completely out of passion. I had no help from any source whatsoever except my accumulated salary. These gym equipment cost a fortune. A single 20 kg weight plate cost 350 gh plus, I could have done with some help even if it was a loan. I have built on this over a period of almost six years. There's no way I could survive waking up at dawn to come to this for 6 good years if I didn't love this. Even now, people think I'm wasting my time yet they can't fight the urge to show up at my doorstep for some money. Today, this gym is therapy for loads of youth in this town. Its contribution to health and fitness in the municipality and unity among the youth is something admirable. Yet, this is just the beginning.
I think it's about time to allow people do what they want to do with their lives. You cannot fail when you are doing something that completely interests you. Money will just be an added benefit. The happiness and the fulfillment of just doing this is where the real gain is.

True talk... In fact, the concept of education is misunderstood in our society of late such that in spite of all the knowledge accumulated, yet we are unable to put them into practice, the undiscovered potentials and capabilities still remains latent cus we always aim at being employed by the government after education.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, I'm highly moved by that aspect of education ... Its high time we do what we gotta do as individuals other than solely depending on the government for employment.
