YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT YOUR BODY
We tend to think that we know our own bodies perfectly, but in fact, the human body is one seriously complex and mysterious mechanism that sometimes confuses even the most qualified specialists. Check out these 15 fascinating facts about our bodies.

BRAIN POWER
Your brain accounts for only 2% of your body weight, yet it uses 20% of the total oxygen and blood in your body. In a lifetime, your brain's long-term memory can hold up to 1 quadrillion (1 million billion) bits of information and also operated roughly by the same amount of power as a 10-Watt light bulb.

HUMAN EYE
If the human eye was a digital camera, it would've been 576 megapixels. Currently, the most expensive digital camera in the world has 200 megapixels.

DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC ACID (DNA)
If uncoiled, the DNA in all of your body's cells would stretch 10 billion miles. That's long enough to reach from here to Pluto…. and back!

MINING THE BODY
Your body has enough iron in it to forge a metal nail that is 3-inches long, enough sulphur to destroy all fleas on an average dog, enough carbon to make 900 pencils, enough potassium to fire a toy cannon, enough fat to make 7 bars of soap, enough Phosphorus to make 2200 match heads, enough water to fill a Ten-gallon tank.

GETTING SKINNIER
Humans shed about 600000 particles of skin every hour. That adds up to about 4kg of skin cells every year.

NOSES ARE GREATER THAN EYES
Research has it that the average human ]being can distinguish between 1 trillion different odours. This is much more acute than the human eye, which can distinguish "only" about 10 million different colours.

THE DAMP MOUTH
In a lifetime, an average person produces about 25,000 quarts of saliva, enough to fill two swimming pools. We also produce about a litre of mucus per day.

GROWING ON AND ON
Your ears and nose will never stop growing until the last day of your life. In fact, your earlobes will also elongate from gravity.

BACTERIA (MAN'S BEST FRIEND)
All of the bacteria in our body collectively weighs about 4 pounds. That's enough to fill a gigantic bowl of truly disgusting soup. In fact, there are more bacteria in your mouth than there are people in the world.

THE ELECTRICAL HEART
Your heart has its own electrical impulse. This means that as long as it has an oxygen supply, your heart can keep beating even if it is separated from the body. It also beats 35 million times a year. Yes!, 35 million.

HOT BODY
The highest recorded body temperature in a human being was a fever of 115.7°F (46.5°C). A fever over 107.5°F (41.9°C) is enough to damage the brain and if untreated, causes extreme conditions.

THE POWERHOUSE OF THE HAND
Without your pinky finger, you would lose about 50% of your hand strength. While the index and middle fingers function with the thumb for pinching and grabbing, it is the pinkie that teams up with the ring finger to provide grip power.

THE ART OF HEARING
Hearing is the fastest human sense. Your brain can recognise a sound 10 times faster than the blink of an eye. That's as little as 0.05 seconds.

COUGHING AT THE SPEED OF SOUND
A strong cough forces air out of the airways at speeds up to 620 mph, which is almost as fast as the speed of sound. The speed of your sneeze is 140 km per hour.

ARE YOU THIRSTY?
A feeling of thirst occurs when water loss is equal to 1% of your body weight. The loss of more than 5% can result in fainting, and more than 10% causes extreme conditions from dehydration.
